A fantastically clever and well-made film, with some great cinematic techniques and a rocking score. However I have to say I came out of it feeling ‘dirty’ somehow, and very sad.. It has such a sense of squalor and quiet desperation/hopelessness to it that I couldn’t really say I enjoyed it, even though in a technical sense it’s a very good film.
Loads of new stuff – most of the songs extended, plus one or two new scenes, and one or two extended scenes. In most of the cases I can understand why they were cut for the theatrical release, but for some of them I can’t!
Well what can I say? Still possibly my “best film of
all time” – I have watched it many many times, and can still hardly find
any way the film could be improved. This special edition seems to be
even longer then the special edition released on VHS a few years ago, but
I wouldn’t swear on that.
Just back from holiday (in Greece) – feeling tanned and refreshed, so that’s good. 🙂 Excitements? Well, the oz DVDs all worked (hurrah!), and both the Blues Brothers and Aliens are special editions, with extra previously unseen footage. Also saw Moulin Rouge – a fantastically clever and well-made film, with some great cinematic techniques and a rocking score. Long time since last update – been busy! Just a quick rave about ezydvd.com.au (R4 DVDs from Oz – the online seller lin ked with dvd.net.au) – I ordered 3 DVDs on Thursday, they were dispatched on Friday, and arrived this morning (all of 3 working days later). They’re Blues Brothers, Aliens, and Eric Clapton Unplugged, and I can’t wait to give ’em a whirl. And the price?? Well don’t know the exact price, but it was Aus$95, which works out at just under 30 quid, including p∧p (for comparison, HMV sell Clapton for 22 quid). All thats’ left to do is see if my player will play Region 4!!!
Played Gran Turismo 1 again… I think I was a bit harsh on my judgement of GT3 – it is a country mile better graphically than GT1… I guess I just didn’t play it for long enough. Still not worth 40 quid tho.

Finally a PS2 game that begins to do justice to the power of the machine!! Also played the playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 2 – WOW. I was blown away by this.. I never played the original, which might explain it, but it was fantastic. Awesome graphics and music, excellent gameplay. Joins my “games to buy” list, along with Final Fantasy X, and of course the next generation Tomb Raider.
Played Zone of the Enders over the weekend on the PS2 – finally a PS2 game that begins to do justice to the power of the machine!! Also played the playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 2 – WOW. Speaking of which, I finally finished Tomb Raider 4 (the last revelation) – just got to do chronicles now…
